The ethics of video games

   To the individual , playing video game can make money and even become a career . The Korean in the beginning of the film take playing  games as their career , by winning prizes in the video game competitions. They make money from the virtual and do the thing they love to do .

However , only an extremely small amount of the player can take playing video games as a career . In other words , the other people is wasting their time on the virtual world . That may affect their prospect , academic studies or relationship between family badly . 

To the society , it is hard to say that the society can benefit from video games . But we can say video games benefit the military . According to the film , the people say that the US military train the youth by playing video games . It may be a benefit to the safety off the society . On the contrary , there are a lot of disadvantages on playing video games . As the above mentioned , most of the players are just wasting time . The society may lost their productivity . Also , when students addict to the video games , the realtionship between their parents and them may get worsen and also the student may learn ineffectively . The negative atmosphere may surround the society . 

As I mentioned before , the US military train the youth by playing video games . It also implies that the video games have power to change the mind of the youth . In this point , we can develop that the video games can both encourage aggressive values and anti-social action in the real world . 

I strongly suggest that the government ban certain games . Because some video games such as  shotting games can only make the players feel nervous . The high degree of concentration on the screen make people over-exciting .

Presentation : Creating Identity Online - Jayesslee

Jaysslee is an online singer group . The style of them is acoustic which means that they perform without instuments . They both cover tracks and make original songs and upload to youtube .

In 2008 , Jayesslee create an youtube account . That is the identity they create in youtube . They were the youtube users at first . They first uploaded their video "YES YOU HAVE" in the same year .


The amount of page viewers of their first song is 88000 . A great response of their video socked them and they keep uploading video on youtube . They become more and more famous . The number of page viewers of their song "Bubblegum" one year later is 658353 . The number raises eight times in one year . That implies that their music spread not only in their home city , it spreads to all over the world .
And the recent videos they uploaded are counted more than one million page viewers and the representative work " Officially missing you" have 5million page viewers . They become the famous online singers.

  On the other hand , some organisations discover them and invite them to perform in different shows or concert . For example , they peformed in the G4R concert which inviting many famous singers from Korea and Malaysia . In other word , the organisation admits their popularity . In the March of this year , they have their own concert in LA , which named " Envision" .  The May of this year , they were invited to perform in a show in China and being interviewed by the local TV . We can see that their popularity have extended to Asia .

   I am interesting in Jayesslee because of their special style . The common phenomenon is that the people would like to hide their identity online , they try hard to make the real world apart from the virtual world . I guess that they may afraid of being tricked by other people . However , Jayesslee tries to merge these two worlds . For example , they show thier names , faces , voices and even the background of the videos is their home . At the end of some video , they also share some trivial things in their daily life . So they present a good image to the viewers . Also , the style of their video can avoid fake person and voice . That is totally different from normal people .

   The identity of their virtual world and real world has changed a lot because of being famous . In the virtual world , they are only the youtube sharer and users two years ago . And now , they are the famous online singers who have a record of 6.6 million page viewers . In the reality , they are only the people who have passion in singing and now they are the famous singer who have a own concert in LA . In this changes , it shows that the relationship between the real world and virtual world .
   In conclusion , they virtual world and the real world is inter-related . In this case , Jayesslee , they benefit from the virtual world . The success of the identity online , online singer , let them to become famous and success in the reality .

Is it reasonable to consider computer games as art?

Adams defines art in many aspects.

"Art has content " : That means something must be expressed . In order words, art is expressive.

" Art has an aesthetic" : Since he mentions that art should appeal to us in some ways , a work of art should contain some aesthetic elements, such as the richness of the figure, the depth of the paintings.

"Art contains ideas" : He mentions that art is a form which has a capacity to express the ideas. In this point , he admits that some games are able to contain ideas.

"Art makes you feel things" : This is an abstract idea that it talks about what art about.

"Art is not formulaic" : A good art is that it does not formulaic. No formula exists in order to construct an art work .

"Utility and Saleability" : The focus of an art work should on what you have to say and not whether it can appeal to the customers.

For me, I do not agree with the point ,' Art is not formulaic' . I guess some painters may paint in their own style , so as to the craftmanship . I see this kind of "Formula" as a style of their own. Also, different art movement is found, such as impressionism and mordernism. This may also a kind of style , not a formula.

According to Adam, viedo games should follow what the public seeing the art form is . Viedo requires more aesthetic . Since the greatest art work can raise the discussion endlessly so the viedo games should challenge the player.

Bus Uncle

" Bus Uncle " is the local issue which was happened in 2006 . From the record of youtube , it is estimated that more than one million people have watched this youtube viedo .

From the view of technical term, this is a low-quality viedo because this is a sudden case and the viewer may took this viedo  by telephone . Also, this viedo do not interest in aesthetic since no special camera angels , use of light were seen.

This issue is famous for the dramatic and unusual speech of the "Bus Uncle" . However, it raises a social issue through the speech of the uncle . He emphasize the word  "Pressure" . Keen competiton exists in all the aspects in Hong Kong ,such as career , good education, resources . However, Hong Kong people face this pressure as usual and forget that they are facing pressure . This viedo reminds Hong Kong people are facing pressure .

This viedo deserve to have the great attention in the internet community because it makes people knowing that what is the social problem in the reality .

Viedo - sharing site enhances the creative culture because this manner is convenient to the people who wants to share what they have seen .

Screening : Mission to Earth

In digital cinema , non-existing objects can appear in the scene . This is totally different from the traditional cinema because the traditional one can only appear the existing objects . In "Mission to Earth", the digital effects are created by the editor . They do not appear in the reality . Therefore, the digital cinema can enhance the atmosphere by creating these digital effects . For me , this is a progress of the traditional cinema .

The screening remind me of the painting of George Seurat . He had claimed that the pointillism in painting . That means if the painter puts two different color on a paper , the viewers will mix up the color by themselves . For example , put red color next to yellow color , green color will appear on the viewer's eyes. In "Mission to Earth", the editor put the digital effect and the story scene next together . It may implies that the viewers can mix up two scene together in order to enhance the atmosphere of the context of story .

Digital photography and camera

Digital technology helps us to achieve many photographic effects .We can amplify or lessen the pictures as our preference. Also, we can regulate the brightness , roughness of the pictures when we use the digital technology . On the other hand , we can add objects into the picture which the object doesn't appear on the picture .

However , some photographic techniques can only be done by using the digital technology, such as adding some objects into the pictures . We would like to add some objects into the pictures in order to make the picture more meaningful . For example, someone takes a picture of the sky . He may puts a angel under the sky which makes the scene implying the angel coming from the heaven. Also, the digital technology can help sharpen the facial expression of people .

Analog photography is limited by the surroundings so it is less flexibility . Digital photography exists a high degree of flexibility . It can be regulated according to human preference .
